Antioxidants Vitamins And The Truth

by Claude Fernandez

What are the important antioxidants that may slow the aging process?
Many of them are vitamins. To a biologist, a vitamin is a substance
necessary for life that the body cannot synthesize.

The number of existing vitamins is subject to debate, but many sources
agree that there are thirteen. A basic understanding of vitamins and
how they work will help you understand the complex metabolic processes
that occur in every one of your cells.

The four vitamins soluble in fat are agreed as A, D, E and K. These
substances are important to the fat stores of the body, the good news
about this is that you do not need to consume these vitamins everyday
as a result of their slow digestion.

Vitamin A is a superb antioxidant. Foods such as carrots, potatoes and
broccoli are abundant in this vitamin. It may also surprise you to
learn that all types of animal livers and certain types of cheeses
have massive amounts of this vitamin stored within.

A lot of experts argue that vitamin A is not a genuine vitamin because
it can be made in the liver by taking certain molecules, however this
is a very complex act and not really of interest to the normal person.
Vitamin A is however an important vitamin and one to be used to your
benefit.

At one time, vitamin A was known as the anti-infective vitamin because
it is necessary for immune competency. According to Dr. Kenneth Bock,
beta-carotene and other carotenoids may increase immune function by
enhancing lymphocyte production, increasing macrophage (cells that eat
foreign matter and microorganisms) and.Tcell activity, and maintaining
the membrane receptors that are essential for proper immune function.

Through research we know that vitamin A is great for excellent vision,
healthy skin, and healthy mucous membranes. Retin-A, a doctors only
drug, which is a synthetic vitamin A-like substance, can effectively
treat skin conditions ranging from acne and early wrinkles. Studies
demonstrate that vitamin A can indeed heal gastric ulcers and prevents
stress ulcers from forming. Vitamin A can be highly toxic in
significant doses and - should never be taken by women carrying babies
or considering pregnancy.

As well as vitamins, antioxidants are seen being important to any type
of supplementation plan. Alpha lipoic acid is a great antioxidant and
a superb addition and should be used in most individuals
supplementation plan.
